Hit and Run
The Pen & Pencil Club, the nation’s oldest press club, celebrates its newest digs with a kick-off shebang Friday night.
The club was housed until recently in a dump on a crime-ridden block of Sansom Street, where a man with an Uzi walked in one night and held up members. The new address is 1522 Latimer Street, at the former home of the once-chi-chi Fourth Street Club.
Though already open for about a month, the club will celebrate its new locale with a party featuring guest of honor Bo Grace, a club member and creator of the Ernie comic strip. The club also hopes the likes of Tom Ridge, Ed Rendell and other luminaries will attend. Just ask Daily News yo-ster Theresa Conroy, who spent a recent evening stenciling invites to the high and mighty over cocktails.
Unfortunately, Conroy turned down Hit&Run’s offer to sign the invite to Ridge, “Love, Your Oom-Pah-Pah Pals at Meyer Werft.”
