U.S. Central Command is hosting its third operational planning conference this week in the fight against the Sunni insurgent group Islamic State.
The conference, which runs from today through May 1 at the command’s headquarters on MacDill Air Force Base, will be an opportunity for military planners from 39 nations to “further develop and refine military campaign plans to degrade and defeat ISIL while building and strengthening relationships among all participants,” according to a media release from the command.
The third conference in less than a year, it is “another important milestone in U.S. and Coalition military efforts to work together with Iraq and other partners from around the world to eliminate the terrorist group ISIL and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, the region and the wider international community,” according to the command.
