Friend Calls Attack Victim ‘A Beautiful Girl’

Facebook Page Also Reveals Some Traits

She was attacked two days after her 18th birthday. And just days before she was supposed to go to the prom.

She plays sports.

Her favorite color is pink.

She hates upsetting people.

These are some of the details about the life of the teenager who was raped, beaten and left for dead Thursday night. The young woman is clinging to life at Tampa General Hospital.

The details come from a family friend and from her Facebook page profile.

The Tribune is not releasing her name, or the name of her high school, because of the nature of the crime.

She admits to being indecisive, and to being uncoordinated at times. She says she is always in a good mood.

“I like to sing in the shower,” she writes in her Facebook profile, “and in the car when no one is listening.”

The woman lives with her mom, a sister who is in college and her stepfather, according to Diane Israel, a family friend who has known the woman for about 10 years. They met when the woman lived in Baltimore.

“She is a beautiful girl, full of life, Israel said. The family, Israel said, lived in Baltimore “until 2005, when the whole family moved there [to Florida] to be close to the sister in college.

“I can’t get the image of her out of my head when they came to Thanksgiving here when she was about 8,” she said. “This is all so sad.”

While Israel has been unable to speak to the woman, her Facebook profile offers some insight into her thinking.

“It’s easy for me to forgive,” she writes, “but it’s hard for me to forget.”
