Politics is not the only thing that makes Mayor Ed Rendell and Council President John Street hedge their bets.
When asked after their respective inaugurations for a prediction on Sunday’s Eagles’ second-round playoff matchup against the hated Cowboys, neither red-suited pol would come out publicly picking a final score favoring the home team.
Rendell came closest.
“If the Eagles score first, Dallas will lose,” the mayor boldly predicted.
Street was less confident.
“I don’t want to jinx the team,” said Street. “But if Rodney Peete has half the game he did against Detroit, Dallas could be in deep, deep, deep trouble.”
