Suspect Found Under Mother’s Bed

He’s Charged With Stealing From Home

TAMPA – Police say that thanks to some sharp investigative work, a burglary suspect was found under a bed in his mother’s house and a woman had items recovered that she didn’t know were stolen.

This is what happened, according to a daily incident log:

Detective Richard Moody developed information about a suspect in a series of air conditioner thefts. He also found the serial number of an air conditioner compressor he suspected was stolen. He turned that over to Street Anti-Crime Squad 132. Squad members called the manufacturer, and the manufacturer told police which contractor installed the unit. The contractor, in turn, told police where it installed the unit.

Police then called the owner and told her about the burglary, which she did not know about.

During the investigation, police also learned that a pressure washer and ladder were stolen from her property.

Now that they had a victim and evidence, police said, they obtained an arrest warrant for Brian Seals, 35, of 3108 W. Ballast Point Blvd.

They went to the Ballast Point Boulevard address, which is where his mother lives.

With Mom’s help, police recovered the pressure washer from a shed in the backyard, then they found Seals hiding under his mother’s bed, police said.

Seals was arrested and, according to jail records, charged with four counts of burglary of an unoccupied structure and seven counts of third-degree grand theft, all felony charges.

He was being held at Orient Road Jail. Bail was set at $33,000.
